Susana Blasco

Susana Blasco (Zaragoza, 1972) is a graphic designer, illustrator and collagist. All her work, both graphic and artistic, exudes a strong symbolic charge, where the central axis is the concept. Each work is an excuse to experiment, mix, shake and recreate in play, humor and double meanings. Her clients, from large institutions to small commissions, are especially focused on the cultural field, approaching each project from a conceptual perspective and trying to open channels between the language of design and a more artistic sensibility, with special emphasis on the process of creation, experimentation and the generation of ideas through mixing, crossovers, unexpected unions and impossible combinations. In her more personal projects she is especially interested in the exploration of memory, time, the past, recollections, oblivion and women, often using old photographs rescued from flea markets and small found objects as starting material. She also feels a special connection with geometry, fragmentation, repetition, compulsive order and a specific chromatic range around white and ochre.

Susana Blasco has more than 20 years of experience as a graphic designer. She studied two careers (Advertising and Business Studies) which she complemented with art and design courses. She worked for more than 10 years in different studios and advertising agencies in Zaragoza as a graphic designer and art director. In 2007 she set up her own graphic studio and received a DPZ scholarship to further her artistic studies abroad. In 2008 she moved to London where she remained until 2011, alternating freelance work with several monographic courses at the prestigious Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. After living briefly in several cities, for the last 9 years she has been living in Bilbao where she has set up her studio and residence. Her work, both graphic and artistic, has been reviewed in specialized media and has been part of numerous solo and group exhibitions in Los Angeles, Miami, Lisbon and throughout the national territory. In 2017 she received a Gràffica Award for her contributions to the collage technique. Currently she continues to combine her work as a designer and illustrator with her artistic facet that continues to evolve.
